- Hey genius...you have to have a breast EXAM/SCREENING in order to be referred for a mammogram. I should know because I have them done EVERY YEAR. You CANNOT , at ANY imaging facility OR hospital, get a MAMMOGRAM, BIOPSY or ULTRASOUND w/o getting a BREAST EXAM/SCREENING FIRST and a referral.
